🌟We’re a month away from my first in person conference talk in 2 years!!!🌟 I’ll be presenting on a paper my long-time collaborator Kristen J. Nyitray and I wrote about Gen Zers and affective archives on social media. Our research argues that Billy Joel’s song “Vienna” operates as a counter-temporal, affective archive within algorithmically paced life for Gen Zers. My favorite part of writing/researching it was citing the TikTok and Instagram post captions including emojis.
Join me in person at the Billy Joel Symposium in Stony Brook, NY on June 6th. It’s a two-day academic conference devoted to the music, lyrics, themes, and cultural impact of Billy Joel. Check out the full line up of speakers and pricing info (tickets are $36 for adults) at https://www.limusichalloffame.org/billy-joel-symposium/
